Pharmacy is a profession which deals with the health with the management of drug therapy for the patients. Pharmacists also involves informulating, testing and distribution of drugs and medicines with its information’s, which assists in the proper selection and use of medicine. Pharmacy is a rare field of science that requires close interactions with people to earn their trust as they work towards improving their health. The scope of pharmacy includes the synthesis, analysis and biological evaluation of medicinal value molecules as well as the cultivation, isolation and characterization of medicinal plants. In India, the pharmacy sector is presently the fastest growing segment with excellent growth, in comparison with others.
The pharmacy graduates as pharmacistare the authorized professionals to distribute, manufacture and handle medicines at all levels. As per the Drugs and Cosmetic Act, 1940 and other regulations prescribed by Pharmacy Council of India (PCI), presence of pharmacists are mandatory where drugs and medicines are handled. Pharmacists play a significant role in providing health care by assisting the other health care professionals and also the patients.
Pharmacy programs (B.Pharm, M.Pharm & D.Pharm) in Calcutta Institute of Pharmaceutical Technology & AHS (CIPT&AHS) adopted the uniform syllabus prescribed by Pharmacy Council of India (PCI) and Affiliated to Maulana Abul Kalam Azad University of Technology (MAKAUT), West Bengal.

To provide students with a strong and well-defined concept in thevarious fields of pharmaceutical sciences like Pharmaceutics,Pharmaceutical chemistry, Pharmacognosy, Pharmacology, Pharmaceutical Biotechnology andPharmacy Practice according to the requirement of dispensing pharmacy, pharmaceuticalindustries, community and hospital pharmacy.
To develop a spirit of teamwork and responsiveness amongst studentstowards the importance of interdisciplinary approach fordeveloping capability in solving complex problems in the area ofPharmaceutical Sciences.
Across the world, India ranks 3rdfor pharmaceutical production in terms of volume. Over 3,000 domestic pharmaceutical manufacturers operate in the country. The need of well-trained pharmacist is still in increasing demand. They are also becoming more involved in-patient care. As prescription drugs become more complex, and as the number of people taking multiple medications increases, the potential for dangerous drug interactions will grow. Pharmacists will be needed to counsel patients on the proper use of medication, assist in drug selection and dosage, and monitor complex drug regimens. This need will lead to rapid growth for pharmacists in medical care establishments, such as doctors’ offices, outpatient care centers, and nursing care facilities.
After completing B.Pharm, pharmacists are playing active role in building the nation by taking active participation in our Healthcare System. Pharmacist is a person licensed to design, prepare and dispense drugs and medicines. Indian drugs are exported to more than 200 countries in the world, with the US as the key market. India is the world’s largest provider of generic medicines. India is likely to be among the top 3 pharmaceutical markets by incremental growth and 6th largest market globally in absolute size. B.Pharm passed out students plays a major role in pharma industry by their active participation and dedicated work.
